Luciano

Right after Juan Atkins and Model 500, the second musical shock Luciano experienced in the electronic world was Derrick May. The techno landlord heavily influenced Luciano with his clever balance between streamlined percussion-heavy cascades of sound and warm string samples. It didn’t take long until the talented DJ landed his first release on Detroit's legendary Transmat imprint, guiding his Chilean influences through the minimal fun groove of the techno engrained city.

Culpable for dropping a slew of fêted records on Playhouse, Peacefrog, and Perlon, the Chilean has built up a solid relationship with those that have a strong affiliation with the Latin American Electonica scene. Luciano’s collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos, Pier Bucci and Loco Dice have possibly resulted in some of the techno’s most precious music and performances. Yet, he is still the superlative force to be reckoned with when it comes to exceptional lengthy sounds and warm psychedelic grooves.

In April 2006, Luciano illustrated his raw DJ talents with the release of 'Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Volume 2’, the next compilation for Sona Records. Using only vinyl and his bare hands, the mix is pure rhythmic emotion weaved through an organic tapestry of sounds. In the summer of 2006, Luciano’s unclassifiable rhythmic experimentation defined his most feverish dancefloor anthems with a new residency at DC-10 Ibiza and the Cocoon Wildlife 2 parties. Holding on to his musical reigns, his production skills continued to receive critical acclaim from DJs worldwide after the remix of Salif Keita's 'Yamore’ which is still one of the rarest records in his discography.

In October 2007, Luciano returned with his first new material on Cadenza in almost a year and a half, since his brilliant "Solomon's Prayer/ Father" with Thomas Melchior's in May 2006. 'Études Électroniques' featured four tracks that defined Luciano’s invigorating and inspired outlook on life, putting his talents into the service of the most unhinged dancefloors.

In January 2008, Luciano was invited to do an Essential Mix for BBC Radio1, which was warmly received by his fan base. Luciano also compiled and mixed ‘Fabric 41’ for acclaimed London club Fabric in 2008. For someone that believes mixing is essentially about live moments, this was a challenge for the producer yet it exceeds expectation and modulates into something charged and wonderfully rhythmic.

The same year, Luciano formed a partnership with German DJ Loco Dice, and together they play back-to-back at club events and festivals. To end a successful run through 2008, Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos won Best Ibiza Set at Cocoon for the 11th edition of the annual DJ awards, which took over Pacha Ibiza.

For this year, Luciano will proudly present his Æther Live project. Over the last few years, the Chilean has favoured a definitive DJ set when playing in the live arena, but this performance will see him return to his sonic laptop for a new exciting project. Luciano has a busy year ahead with worldwide performances, not forgetting a hugely anticipated appearance at Amnesia in Ibiza to help celebrate ten years of Cocoon.
