Jacek Sienkiewicz

After two years of completing gear and experimenting with sounds, his first CD was released in early 1999. Its title "Recognition" also became the name of Jacek's own record label. Until now, five vinyl EPs have been released, selling out immediately worldwide and being reviewed both as guaranteed, powerful dancefloor techno tools and carefully crafted, original compositions. At the very base of Jacek's style lies originality: although inspirations are obvious sometimes, the tracks always manage to retain a very individual edge, keeping with a very special kind of string-driven melancholy over accelerating beats. But the artist's imagination reaches beyond the dancefloor: recently also some experimental tracks started to surface. Firstly "Item", an EP for Berlin's prominent magazine De:Bug, and in early 2001 another one, "Pocket Control" for Cologne-based Trapez Records. Jacek still plays out as a DJ, although he definitely prefers playing live. He appeared several times live with more experimental sets, accompanying artistic performances at Warsaw's Centre for Contemporary Art or supporting the likes of Mouse On Mars. Being widely appreciated outside Poland, Jacek tries to stay aside the Polish techno scene, doing his thing rather than following current trends. And the music speaks for itself: crafted with soul and passion, this is techno for the future, combining clubby dynamics with deeply original sound design. In 2002, Jacek released his first Artist Album "techne". The Greek word "techne" simply means "a way to know things". Therefore "technology" and further "techno" should be understood as "a way of creation through knowledge". It shouldn't be perceived as "new" - it is more a mode of understanding and perception. It is not the object that counts but rather the way we understand it. The Human Mind is an arrangement of simple neural nets, an enormous collection of simple processes formed into so-called "consciousness". But, despite all limitations and knowing that it is almost impossible to use all the "stored" knowledge at one time, computer-generated art - processing tons of information from a myriad of sources - will always lack something. Despite this giant leap in technology we are currently witnessing, the central driving force of what we call "art" will always be soul. More and more sophisticated machines surely will be able to reproduce, but could never create anything similar to human feelings. Machines surely can build something new out of given sources, but cannot improvise. There is no algorithm for soul. Soul also seems to be a keyword for the creator of these pieces. Jacek Sienkiewicz was born in Warsaw and during the past few years, he was focusing on developing his own style through his Recognition label. His tracks stand out both as powerful dancefloor techno tools and carefully crafted original compositions. At the very base of Jacek's style lies originality: The tracks always manage to retain an individual edge, keeping with a very special kind of string-driven melancholy over accelerating beats. But the artist's imagination reaches beside the dancefloor: at one point also some more experimental tracks started to surface. And music speaks for itself: created with soul and passion, this is techno for the future, combining clubby dynamics with deeply original sound design. "Techne", the second album of Jacek Sienkiewicz was released on March 4th 2002, being the first artist album to be released on Cocoon Recordings, Sven Väth's record smithy. Cocoon Recordings - having hit the headlines so far with two exclusive Label Compilations, a Mix-CD by Steve Bug and, of course, the two Ibiza-Mix-CDs by Sven Väth is surely moving on a new terrain with this record, but one can easily trust in Sven's good nose for new and influencing acts.
