The story behind his release “Dark Knight”

One of the latest additions to the ever growing Awakenings artist list is the 26 year old Amsterdam based Tom van de Ven, better known as VNTM. Making his debut at Awakenings on 29th of December 2018 with his live set, he was one of the youngest contributors to the NYE lineups that year. 2019 saw the return of the young dutchman during the NYE special and in 2020 he doesn’t seem to slow down pace with gigs at Awakenings Eindhoven, the Easter special and his 5th Awakenings gig is a special one; the festival, celebrating 20 years of Awakenings!

Can you explain us how it felt to play at Awakenings for the first time last year?

Well I had been preparing for this gig for weeks if not months, cause everything had to be perfect. You know when playing such a gig for the first time, a lot of eyes are on you and I knew because of the livestream even more people would be watching. All day I had been wandering around and felt restless. Not stressed out but just trying to find the right focus. The Gashouder filled up really quickly and the crowd directly started interacting and dancing, making it a really special debut I won’t forget!

Did something change after that?

After that first Gashouder experience I really wanted to do it again of course but besides that, I got a lot of reactions online from the livestream. And more gigs started coming in, so it did impact my career in a very positive way! And I’m very happy to be back this year in such a way, and I hope to do so in the future too.
